The paint was extremely easy to apply – and the customer service was accessible and helpful! As a teacher you try to present as many different way as possible to to teach a concept and having the extra large dry erase wall helped us to teach concepts, facilitate games and student bonding and write instructions. We have no problem erasing everything with a multi purpose sponge eraser! It has been a HUGE learning tool for our classroom and we are forever grateful.

At any one time I work on 8-10 initiatives and your dry erase paint has enabled me to better visualize what I need to do. It’s useful for brainstorming and process evaluation, so much so that we’ve recently purchased it for our marketing department. It’s a great fit for our company.

FAQ's

Whiteboard paint is a high-performance dry erase paint that can be used to smooth surfaces like walls or desks, converting them into functional whiteboard areas that can be used with any standard whiteboard marker. Smarter Surfaces whiteboard paint for walls consists of two components that, when combined, create a dry erase surface where you can draw, write, and erase using dry erase markers.
When choosing the best whiteboard paint consider the surface and how you will use the product and if you require additional functions like magnetic whiteboard paint or projection whiteboard paint. Choose a product that is suitable for use that is Isocyante free and of a commercial performance standard.

A good smooth surface like a smooth plaster or gypsum wall is best for whiteboard paint. If the surface is poor you will need to prepare the surface first by filling and sanding. If you will use your whiteboard paint in a school or public space like an office check it has fire certification. Smart Whiteboard Paint is fire certified.
Yes, you can paint a dry erase board or a whiteboard using whiteboard paint. Smarter Surfaces Whiteboard Paint allows you to transform almost any smooth surface into a functional whiteboard, expanding your options for creating collaborative spaces. Simply clean the whiteboard, apply one coat of Smart White Primer and then apply one coat of whiteboard paint.

For refurbishing old whiteboards or chalkboards consider our Self Adhesive Whiteboard Films for fast installation.
Yes, whiteboard paint, or dry erase wall paint, is designed to function well. Smarter Surfaces Whiteboard Paint creates a smooth, erasable writing surface that works with dry erase markers and includes a 10-year warranty. Proper application will ensure it operates at its best.
As is the case with many inventions there is some contention over who the original inventor was. Most credit the invention of the whiteboard to Martin Heit in the late 1950s. Heit, a Korean War veteran, developed a whiteboard using melamine and steel, replacing the traditional chalkboard with a marker-based writing surface. In 2009, Smarter Surfaces began research and development of whiteboard paint, the next chapter for whiteboards.
In most cases, yes, you can paint over whiteboard paint. However, it's important to ensure proper adhesion and compatibility between the existing whiteboard paint and the new paint.
To eliminate stains from a whiteboard, start by using a dry erase eraser or a soft cloth along with a whiteboard cleaner. If the stain remains, apply Smarter Surfaces Permanent Ink Remover to the affected areas. This is a high-performance product that should not be used for everyday cleaning.

Standard whiteboard paint is not magnetic on its own. However, Smarter Surfaces offer a magnetic whiteboard paint. This product is designed so the surface is both magnetic and writable.
To achieve an impeccable whiteboard finish, please follow these steps:
  • Step 1 Preparation - Fill any imperfections on the surface with decorator's filler, then sand it smooth and eliminate any sanding dust. Apply two coats of white primer allowing it to dry overnight prior to applying the whiteboard paint.
  • Step 2 Coverage - Make sure you have sufficient whiteboard paint to cover the entire area, as stretching the paint can compromise the whiteboard's effectiveness.
  • Step 3 Mix and apply - Combine parts A and B of the paint and stir thoroughly. Using a new lint-free roller or foam roller, apply a generous, even coat by rolling over the surface multiple times to ensure complete coverage and no missed areas. After finishing a section, pause and visually check for any unpainted spots.
  • Step 4 Write and draw, and elevate your collaboration using any standard whiteboard marker. Our award-winning Whiteboard Paint is backed by a ten-year performance guarantee.

Each whiteboard paint kit is supplied with a roller designed to be used with Smart Whiteboard Paint. For best results, apply paint using a mohair or lint free short pile roller sleeve. If you are using a mohair roller, remove all loose fibres before use. A tip for this is to wrap masking tape around the roller to remove any loose fibres.
Smart Whiteboard Paint can be applied to almost any smooth surface (glass, metal, concrete, wood, etc.). If you are using Smart Whiteboard Paint – Clear over an existing coloured surface, we recommend you use our Smart Clear Primer for best performance. Yes. Our product has been tested to withstand temperatures up to minus 16 degrees celsius and is UV light (ultraviolet) resistant. However, the area should be sheltered and dry to ensure best performance. Please note Smart Whiteboard Paint should not be stored for an extended period of time below zero.
Smart Whiteboard Paint is used in very hot climates all over the world including the Middle East and Australia. UV resistance means that interior surfaces with Smart Whiteboard Paint will not yellow, even in the hottest conditions.
Smart Whiteboard Paint has not been tested for slip resistance and as with any painted finish it could wear according to the traffic on it. Our performance guarantee is as a dry erase paint and does not extend beyond that.
Smart Whiteboard Paint is an ideal whiteboard repair product for most surfaces. Smart Whiteboard Paint can be applied directly onto existing whiteboards after applying Smart White Primer (please note a primer is necessary before whiteboard paint application), just ensure all marker residue has been removed. For blackboards, we recommend you wipe the surface down with a damp cloth to remove any old chalk. Next, coat the blackboard with Smart White Primer. To complete, apply Smart Whiteboard Paint.
A primer helps give a surface a smooth finish. Secondly, they act to ‘seal’ a surface. This means that when you apply Smart Whiteboard Paint on a surface that has been primed, the properties within our whiteboard paint will stay on the wall rather than being absorbed into the wall. In summary, using a primer or sealer means you will get a smoother surface with optimum write-on-wipe-off functionality.
A normal fan heater can be used to speed up the drying process. An infrared lamp can also be used but it can’t be placed too close to the surface.
